Jerry Martien lives in the Humboldt Bay region, where he has worked as a book clerk, doorman, poet in the schools, carpenter, and occasional Humboldt State writing instructor. He has served on many boards and committees advocating environmental and social justice and often reads his poetry at public meetings and ceremonies. He is the author of several chapbooks and a collection, Pieces in Place, as well as personal essays and two histories of money, Shell Game, and most recently The Price of a Life: Shell, Gold, Carbon Notes & Weed.
