Art Workshop May 30 & 31st: Sumi with Sheila Sondik

Art Workshop Coming to Northwind Arts Center

May 30 & 31:   Sumi Ink and Watercolor Painting on crinkled masa with Sheila Sondik
Cost: $60/day

This Wed/Thursday workshop will explore painting on crinkled masa paper, using a combination of Asian and Western painting techniques.

Each person will learn the techniques for crinkling the masa paper: this will produce intriguing textures, introduce the element of chance, and is very fun as well!  By the end of the workshop, you will go home with at least one finished artwork, and the knowledge you need to make many more works on masa paper.

Materials are included. Sheila will supply the paper and ink, etc. – the only supplies you are asked to bring are those you already have such as water containers.

See examples of her experience with the medium on her website at www.SheilaSondik.com

Call to Artists for Art Port Townsend & APT Studio Tour

Call to Artists for:

Art Port Townsend Annual Juried Show

The 14th annual juried show Art Port Townsend: Expressions Northwest is definitely the art event of the season! Get ready now:  the prospectus is available here, or at the Northwind Arts Center. See the Art Port Townsend website for addtional information.

Art Port Townsend Studio Tour

Dear Studio Artists: We are actively planning Art Port Townsend now. Studio Tour will be on Saturday & Sunday, August 25th – 26th, from 10 am to 4 pm.

We invite you to be a part of Studio Tour 2012: submit your application (available at Northwind Arts Center) by June 1st!

Fees for each participant is $95 for members of Northwind Arts Alliance or $130 for non-members.  If you are not a current donor to Northwind Arts Alliance, you may join now to get the reduced entry fee. Once again, the tour will be free to the public. See below for application instructions.

New this Year:  Art Port Townsend has rented the Quimper Grange Hall for artists who do not have or wish to open their own studios. Space is available for six artists at an additional fee of $40 (to pay the facility rental). As with all studios, a demonstration or educational component must be part of these artists’ spaces.

Your fees partially cover the costs to produce and implement the tour: printing the brochure, signs, and advertising. The fee increase in fee covers increased publicity for the Tour and payment for Web services previously donated. There will be a $25 late fee for entries submitted after June 1st to cover additional costs in correcting the brochure.

Kate Dwyer has generously volunteered to be the Volunteer Coordinator for Artists on the Tour and Melinda Bryden will coordinate the paperwork.

Kate and Melinda can be contacted at:

Melinda Bryden     Email:  Melinda@redfernconsultants.com
Mailing Address:  1221 Woodland Drive, PT, WA 98368

Please contact Melinda before June 1st to be a part of this year’s Studio Tour. Include your email address so we can send you the application packet. If you do not have email, send us your US Mail address or pick up the forms at the Northwind Arts Center, 2409 Jefferson St. Northwind Arts Center is open noon to 5 p.m., every day except Tuesday and Wednesday, and for an extra day between shows.

We welcome volunteers with this event: we cannot do this without help! Please contact us if you would like to be involved or if you would like to be notified of the Art Port Townsend meetings. We are especially looking for people to do more publicity.

Also, if you were a previous tour participant and did not return your studio tour sign(s) and support(s), please drop them by the Northwind Arts Center at your earliest possible convenience, so other tour participants may use them.

Do contact us if you have questions. We look forward to a successful Studio Tour 2012!
