Juried Shows are held three times per year. A prospectus will be published for each show and made available at the gallery and on the web. The prospectus specifies all requirements for artists wishing to submit works, includes the show calendar (dates for submitting work, pickup of submissions, show dates, pickup of show work), and identifies the Northwind contacts for each show.
Entering a juried show: A Northwind juried show generally receives far more submittals than it has space to hang. The Art Port Townsend 2006 show had 750 entries, and could hang only 72. Juror Susan Parke commented:
“To select only about 10% of the 750 worthy entries is not an easy task. … Some slides and photographs show works to their best advantage while poor slides reflect negatively on both art and artist. Deserving entries may have been missed because of the slide selection method. To those artists I apologize.”
Invitational Shows - artists will be contacted directly and requested to submit works for these shows.
Workshops - attendance is always limited, so reserve early. Make checks payable to Northwind Arts Alliance and send to Northwind Arts Center (or stop by to see the current exhibit). Please use our registration form, or specify the workshop, and include your name, phone, email and home address. For more information call Northwind Arts Center at 379-1086.
Cancellation Policy - If the class is cancelled, a full refund of tuition and fees will be issued.
Refund Policy - If a student notifies Jefferson Arts Alliance of withdrawal from the workshop three business days prior to the class, he/she will receive a full refund less a 20% fee. No refund will be made less than 72 hours before the workshop.
Artists’ Studio Tour - artists who wish to participate in the tour should contact Northwind Arts Center for more information; generally the call for studio tour artists begins the spring before each year’s event. A photo of art work and written copy about the artist in 25 words or less must be submitted.
Artist Participation - Artists who wish to exhibit, lead a workshop, or share expertise in a coffee talk should contact Northwind at (360) 379-1086.

All Publicity Images (gallery or workshop related)
Note that images must be SEPARATELY attached to the e mail, and of sufficient quality to be used in printed materials and black and white newspaper ads. This means that the images must be 300 dpi at the size they will be printed. Expect file sizes about 1 MB or larger.
If you choose to embed your images in the Word forms, please ALSO include the attached files for those images. Attached images may be in jpeg, tiff or psd format. Mac users: please make sure the appropriate file suffix (.doc, .jpg, .tif, or .psd) has been appended to your files.
Slide and Print Guidelines
Printed brochures and prospectuses have limited space to describe guidelines for submitting slides and prints. This section adds more detail. Most juried shows will accept either 35 mm colored slides OR photographs mounted on 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper as indicated below. Note that Northwind does NOT accept digital files or CDs.
Recently, Nikon announced they would no longer be producing film cameras for consumers. Costco recently stopped accepting slides for processing, and tungsten balanced slide film is getting more difficult to find. The trend here is towards printed photographs from digital files.
It is essential that the juror see a representative image of your artwork; in particular the color must be accurate. Poorly lit or color shifted images can disqualify your work. Consider having your work professionally photographed. Two professionals with a good track record are Frank Ross in Port Townsend, and Joan Consani in Sequim. [Other professional photographers can be added to this list - just send an example of your work that has been accepted by Northwind]
