Exhibit Information – Northwind Arts Center exhibits work by Northwest regional artists at the Center. The primary exhibit space is used for scheduled monthly exhibits, juried or invitational. The adjacent Showcase Gallery space is rented by “walls” to selected regional artists for 3 months at a time, and may be contracted for longer periods.
The Center is open & staffed by volunteers Noon – 5 pm Thursday – Monday. Additionally, the Center is open during Port Townsend Art Walk evening the first Saturday of the month, and for special events. Art talks, demonstrations, and artists workshops are often scheduled in conjunction with shows.
Juried Shows are held several times each year, and will be listed in our Gallery Exhibit Schedule. A show prospectus will be made available at Northwind Arts Center and online 4-5 weeks before the entry deadline. Check the web site Announcements on the main page, or look in the Gallery Exhibit Schedule for the prospectus link following the show title. The prospectus will specify all requirements for artists wishing to submit works, along with the show calendar (dates for submission & pickup of work, and the show start & end), a Northwind contact will be listed for each show. Most shows require that artists bring in their original work for selection, however entries to the annual Art Port Townsend event are selected from images.
Note that a Northwind juried show receives more submissions than it can accept due to space. The Art Port Townsend 2006 show had 750 entries, but could hang only 72 pieces. Juror Susan Parke commented: “To select only about 10% of the 750 worthy entries is not an easy task. … Some slides and photographs show works to their best advantage while poor slides reflect negatively on both art and artist. Deserving entries may have been missed because of the slide selection method. To those artists I apologize.”
Artist Showcase Gallery – Northwind Arts Alliance has expanded their current exhibition space with an adjacent gallery called Artist Showcase, open during the Northwind Art Center regular hours. This new space is dedicated to showcasing local artists work, and is also available for workshops and other events. Art workshop space is available by reservation for a nominal fee at the Artist Showcase gallery space ($50/day as of 1/2010). Tables, chairs, small kitchen, large sink and bathroom facilities are available. Set up and cleanup is required, and note that the workshop space is also exhibit space for 2-D and 3-D art. Art Port Townsend Artists’ Studio Tour – artists who wish to participate in the tour should contact Northwind Arts Center for more information and forms; generally the call for studio tour artists begins several months before each year’s event. The entry fee helps to cover the costs of the brochure, signs, and publicity provided by NAA.
Artist Participation – Artists who wish to exhibit, lead a workshop, or share expertise in an art talk should contact a Northwind Arts Center board member.
Publicity
It is essential that you and your contact/curator begin the publicity process at least eight weeks in advance of the event: we cannot expect good attendance at your exhibit without your timely participation. Please read our publicity guidelines!
