Acclaimed Sculptors continue at Northwind
Through February 28th, Northwind Arts Center continues its exhibit,
"Miniatures/Monuments: Sculptures by Ann Morris and David Eisenhour." For
these Washington artists, the natural world is their primary influence.
Inspiration comes from time spent crawling around on their hands and
knees in their own backyards mining the sculptural forms they discover.
For David, it is the seed, the egg, the beginning that most inspires him.
For Ann, it is the bone, the vessel, the journey and the end that is most
attractive to her. Both artists look at the details and want to
illuminate them with a larger scale.
Northwind Arts Center (2409 Jefferson St.) is open Friday through
Monday, Noon to 5:00 P.M.
"Coffee, Talk, & Dessert" Series
In conjunction with this show, there will be a "Coffee, Talk, & Dessert

works of both Eisenhour and Morris with emphasis on their commonalties
and differences in terms of techniques, subject matter, and conceptual
themes. There is a suggested donation of $3.00 for Jefferson Arts
Alliance members and $6.00 for non-members. For more information, please
call the Arts Center at (360) 379-1086 or visit the website

Juried Show Opportunity: Call for Artists
The Northwind Arts Center is pleased to announce, "Textures, Shapes &
Edges: Contemporary Collage", a juried show of collage and assemblage.
The juror for this show is Carol Bleistein. This Northwest and National
Collage Society artist has been an artist, teacher, and juror for over 25
years. Of the medium she says, "Collage is a compositionally demanding
medium that continually challenges an artist to be aware of changing
shapes and their relationship to the whole."
Artists wishing to submit work for jurying should bring their artwork
to the Northwind Arts Center, from 3-5 P.M., on February 27th or 28th. A
prospectus is available at the Arts Center (phone: 360-379-1086) or its
website:
www.northwindarts.org The show is open to artists from Jefferson,
Clallam, Kitsap, and Island counties. Work must be original and created
within the last three years. The show will be exhibited from March 4 –
April 11, 2005.
Northwind Fun(d) Raiser! Creative Opportunity! Fun(d) Raiser!
Call for entries- Event planner, Deedra Ludwig, has devised a clever
fundraiser to help Northwind. She would like a contribution/donation of 1
– 3 postcard size works (4 inches X 6 inches, unframed) of art for the
Northwind Arts Center’s fundraiser, "Postcards to Port Townsend." Any
medium… painting, collage, ink, graphite, photos, encaustic, watercolor.
Please sign the works on the back with your city location and e-mail or
mailing address. These are due at Northwind now through September 15,
2005.
The identity of the artist will be kept secret, so that the viewer may
select what they are attracted to without knowing the artist who created
it. The works will be sold September 30, 31 and October 1, 2005 at the
center on a first come first serve basis. Please pass this on-
Northwind Arts Center Volunteer Spotlight
Northwind could not operate without its volunteers. Our first volunteer
to be spotlighted is the chairperson for our Volunteer Committee, Karen
Putterman. Karen and her husband, Harvey, moved to Port Townsend from
Connecticut almost eight years ago. She says, "I have always been a
‘wanna-be artist’- only without the talent. I finally started weaving
about twelve years ago and have been able to express myself in that
medium." Karen joined the Jefferson Arts Alliance when it just started-
as a supporter. Before this, she had volunteered to sit the Art Port
Townsend Show, and asked others to volunteer, and one thing led to
another, and now she is the Volunteer Coordinator for Northwind. "I enjoy
working with people and getting to meet all the wonderful and creative
individuals who are involved in making Northwind such a success."
If you would like to join Karen’s team, call her at (360) 379-2620.
Volunteer Opportunities
- Dr. Gene Fusch (Chimacum High School Career and Technology Education
Director) is looking for volunteers from the commercial art and crafts
industry to participate on a Family and Consumer Sciences (Textiles and
Tourism) advisory committee. The advisory committee will get together 3
– 4 times a year to brainstorm and help Chimacum High School develop
dynamic curriculum and learning opportunities for students. Dr. Fusch is
particularly interested in seeking assistance from people that produce
and/or market crafts and homemade tourism products. The first meeting
will be in mid-February.
If you are interested in serving on this committee, or have questions
about this opportunity, please contact Dr. Gene Fusch at (360) 732-4090
(ext. 247) or by e-mail at:
gfusch@gfa.biz He is only at the school one day per week and e-mail
is often the best method to reach him.
- The creative people who find you talented workshop presenters need a
little help. Jefferson Arts Alliance’s Education Committee could really
use another member or two. Your involvement would consist of helping
with 2 – 3 workshops a year. If that doesn’t interest you, they could
use someone to just handle paperwork for the workshops or organize a
mailing and e-mail list for them. If you have a few extra hours, please
contact Lois James at
gjames@olympus.net or call 437-0422. THANK YOU!

Julie Gerrard received a B.A. in English from the University of

Zola Award for poetry from the Pacific NW Writers’ Association, and two
of her poems are traveling on Seattle King County Metro busses.
Thomas Aslin was born and raised in Spokane. He received a B.A. from
