Gallery Happenings
Through April 11th, Northwind Arts Center will continue to exhibit its
show, "Textures, Shapes & Edges: Contemporary Collage", a juried show of
collage and assemblage.
Next Show - "Altered Palettes" - Featuring the work of Barbara
Sternberger
From April 15th – May 23rd, Northwind Arts Center will feature the rich
and vibrant paintings of Barbara Sternberger. Her colorful works evolve
out of integrating her external and internal vision. She says, "This
fusion (of vision) brings recognition to a particular place which
normally can’t be seen, but is somehow familiar. Exposing these places of
mind by using the painting process is what my work is about." There have
been many major shows of her work, and her paintings, drawings, and
prints are widely collected throughout the Northwest.
Come and meet the artist at her opening reception, Saturday, April
16th, at 7:00 P.M. at the center. Northwind Arts Center (2409 Jefferson
St.) is open Friday through Monday, Noon to 5:00 P.M.

Northwind Fun(d) Raiser! Creative Opportunity! Fun(d) Raiser!
Call for entries- Event planner, Deedra Ludwig, has devised a clever
fundraiser to help Northwind. She would like a contribution/donation of 1
– 3 postcard size works (4 inches X 6 inches, unframed) of art for the
Northwind Arts Center’s fundraiser, "Postcards to Port Townsend." Any
medium… painting, collage, ink, graphite, photos, encaustic, watercolor.
Please sign the works on the back with your city location and e-mail or
mailing address. These are due at Northwind now through September 15,
2005.
The identity of the artist will be kept secret, so that the viewer may
select what they are attracted to without knowing the artist who created
it. The works will be sold September 30, 31, and October 1, 2005 at the
center on a first come first serve basis. Please pass this on-
Northwind Arts Center Volunteer Spotlight
Northwind could not operate without its volunteers. This month our
spotlight shines on Kimm Fay. Kimm moved to Port Townsend 11 years ago
from Pacific Grove, California and Guatemala. In California she was
designing and fabricating mixed media jewelry and in Guatemala she
traveled from village to village, 4 to 5 months of every year, working
with Mayan weavers and tailors designing clothes.
Kimm began painting when she was 5 years old and has dabbled in the
arts much of her life- documentary photography, jewelry, weaving, etc.
She has a BFA from the University of Colorado and a MBA from the
University of New Mexico.
Kimm comments: "I decided to join NAA because I agree with the vision
of the organization and its important for me to be of service in my
community. "Sitting" the gallery an afternoon each month is enjoyable –
it’s an opportunity to meet new people and be inspired by the current
body of work on exhibit. Occasionally, I open the Gallery for a special
viewing for groups and would like to encourage more young people to visit
NWAC in the future. It’s also been rewarding to be involved with the NAA
Education Committee offering a fun variety of workshops for the
continuing education of our creative community."
These days Kimm is living the dream she had as a 5-year old when she
could not decide between her passions of art and animals. Kimm says, "I’m
passionate about my veterinary homeopathy practice (rebuilding health in
animals) and I push casein paint on canvas, creating bold non-objective
and whimsical animal images (of course). There are also those instances
when I can’t resist playing in clay, hand-building sculptural pieces."
If you would like to join the Northwind volunteer team, please call
Karen at (360) 379-2620.
