December 2005 NEWSLETTER:  “Arty Things To Do”

Editor: Rae Belkin

The Northwind staff and Jefferson Arts Alliance extend to you our warmest wishes for a happy holiday season and a terrific New Year.

We need you…..   The Jefferson Arts Alliance (the official name of the non-profit 501c3 organization that operates Northwind Arts Center, brings you Art Port Townsend and the Artists Studio Tour, the poetry readings and Coffee Talk Lectures, the monthly newsletter, and other arts-related events) needs you.  The NAA Board has the following positions available:

·         Secretary - The Secretary is charged with attending all Board meetings, taking minutes of the meeting activities, transcribing the minutes to a computer and distributing the minutes via email to the Alliance Board.  The Board meetings are once each month on the third Tuesday, for approximately two hours, 3:30-5:30 p.m. The only additional requirement is to attend one annual retreat to summarize findings and distribute them to the Board. This is a volunteer position.

·         Finance Chair - The NAA Finance Chair should have a comprehensive understanding of financial matters pertaining to charitable organizations organized under section 501c3 of the IRS code. Additionally, the Chair should be familiar with the purposes and functions of program budgeting. NAA has a contracted, paid bookkeeper who will be supervised by the Finance Chair.

·         Bookkeeper – This is a part-time position for a trained bookkeeper with knowledge of non-profit organizations.  Knowledge of "Quick Books for Non-Profits" is highly desirable.  The bookkeeper will need to come to the Alliance Office, at Northwind Arts Center, approximately twice a week to organize receipts and books.  This is a contract position.

If you are interested in furthering the arts and have 2 hours to spare for a monthly meeting, please contact Sylvia White at dwhite@olympus.net or call (360) 379-6833.

December Show:  Northwind Exhibits “Small Expressions, IV”

If you have enough clothes, enough of this and that, a piece of art makes a beautiful holiday gift.  With this in mind, Northwind Arts Center presents, “Small Expressions IV”, a small format fine art and crafts juried show.  Art work by artists from Jefferson, Clallam, Island, and Kitsap counties will be on hand from December 2nd – January 2nd.  An artists’ reception will take place on Saturday, December 3rd, 5:30-8:00 P.M., during Port Townsend’s monthly Gallery Walk.

Cheryl H. Hahn, of Allyn, Washington, is the show’s juror.  She currently serves on the Board of Seattle Print Arts and the Northwest Women’s Caucus for the Arts.  Hahn has exhibited work in numerous local venues including Patricia Cameron Fine Art, Atelier 31 Gallery, the Bellevue Art Museum, and the Port Angeles Fine Art Center.  For more information on this show, and other programs presented by Jefferson Arts Alliance, please visit www.northwindarts.org.

“Coffee, Talk, & Dessert” Series

On Friday, December 9th at 7:00 p.m., the juror for the “Small Expressions, IV” Show, Cheryl H. Hahn, will give a lecture about her selection of works for the show as part of the Coffee Talk Series offered at Northwind Arts Center (2409 Jefferson St., Port Townsend).  Admission is $2.00 for Jefferson Arts Alliance members and $5.00 for non-members.  Complete information regarding Northwind events can be found at www.northwindarts.org.

Many of our volunteers are not artists.  If you are interested in the donation of a few hours to the arts, or you would like to join the Northwind volunteer team, please call Karen at (360) 379-2620.
