New name.
same organization! The Jefferson Arts Alliance is changing its
name and logo. The new name will be Northwind Arts Alliance (NAA),
reflecting its focus on the arts, artists, and the communities of the
Northwest.

• Two special theater events highlight the Northwind Arts Alliance membership
drive during the month of May.
The first event will be on Friday, May 12th at 7 P.M. with the
“Threepenny Opera” by Bertolt Brecht & Kurt Weil being performed by the Key
City Players at their 419 Washington St. theatre (adjacent to the Port
Townsend Skate Park).
At 7:00 P.M. there will be light refreshments; at 7:30 P.M. there will be a
brief talk about the background and setting of the opera; the curtain rises
at 8:00 P.M. Meet the actors afterwards.
The cost will be $25 per person, which will cover Northwind Arts Alliance
membership for 2006 and theatre admission.
The second theatre event will be on Saturday, May 13th at 7 P.M. and
is titled “Improv Night with Joey Pipia”, which will include a magic show (at
7:00) and a performance by a local improvisation group at the Northwind Arts
Center (7:30-8:30).
This event will be an evening of entertainment for young and old. The cost
will be $25 per person or $40 for 2 adults and kids or family, which will
also cover Northwind Arts Alliance membership for 2006. Reservations must be
made for both theatre events by calling Sylvia White at (360) 379-6833. There
are only 50 seats available at both events.
• As we continue to grow, our need for additional volunteers grows, too. Here
are some more opportunities for you and your friends:

database, organizing mailings, keeping records, and learning the art of mass
mailing. Contact Miriam at (360) 385-1621.
2. Work with Sandy Rokoff-Lizut on our Public Relations committee updating
our accommodation booklet. Please call (360) 379-1511.

4. Would you like to be involved with our annual arts festival- Art Port
Townsend? Please call Jeanette Best at (360) 437-9579.

the fine group that brings speakers and art instructors for your workshops to
Northwind. Committee helpers/members are also welcomed. Please contact Lois
James at (360) 437-0422.
6. Want to work at Northwind shows and events? Please call Karen Putterman at

Northwind’s Wish List
As you know, Northwind operates via volunteer power and through generous
donations. The Northwind Arts Alliance’s old (and yes, donated) computer
needs to be retired. We are asking for your tax deductible donations to help
us buy a new computer. Please send your donations to: Northwind Arts
Alliance, 2409 Jefferson St., Port Townsend, WA 98368. A new, or almost new,
computer would help us, too. Thank you.
Gallery Happenings
New Show: “Fragments of a 9-Chambered Heart” – works by Robert Reedy

From May 5th through May 29th, Northwind Arts Center presents the new
exhibit, “Fragments of a Nine-Chambered
Heart”, a one-man show by local artist, Robert Reedy. His architectural
pieces, both wall-mounted and freestanding, are influenced by known historic
elements of sacred and monumental sites or traditions. His sculptural pieces
are accompanied by drawings. The monochromatic nature of the finishes he uses
reflects a fascination with form rather than surface embellishment and
reflects a mystery and aura of a former time, place, and function.
An opening reception will occur in conjunction with Port Townsend’s monthly
gallery walk, on Saturday, May 6th from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m.
“Coffee, Talk, & Dessert” Series
“Fragments of a 9–Chambered Heart” artist, Robert Reedy, will give a lecture
titled, “Beyond Materials: An Archeology of Perception” on Friday, May 12th,
7:00 p.m. at Northwind Arts Center. There is a charge of $2.00 for Jefferson
Arts Alliance members and $5.00 for non-members.
Reedy lives in Port Townsend and works in a basement studio. He says that he
has been “making things” for the past fifty years. He is retired from art
education where he taught painting, perceptual studies and seminars. He
continues to study the primary influences upon his thinking about the
creative impulse through mythology, psychology, and a variety of reading. He
paraphrases that “deconstructive inquiry requires that we cut open the tennis
ball in search of its bounce.”
