reVisions
- Art From Recycled Materials -
January 19th –
February 26th
“Make
art, not trash!” is Diane Kurzyna’s motto.
Her personal philosophy can be applied to Northwind’s first show of the
new year, “reVisions:
Art From Recycled Materials”.
Recycled art is not, of course, something new.
H.C. Westermann, Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg made found-object
art glamorous, though folk artists and quilt-makers have been doing exactly the
same thing for decades.
From
January 19th through February 26th, visitors to the show
will see tapestries made of colored, collaged, woven privacy envelopes by noted
weaver Carolyn Price Dyer; sculptures made with Wonder Bread wrappers by Diane
Kurzyna; large scale metal assemblages by Candace Street; sculpture using
discarded garden hoses by Danielle Bodine; chandeliers of recycled kitchen items
and glass by Russ Morgan; fetish masks by Stuart Gullstrand; traveling shrines
and wall hangings by Susan Hazard; assemblages by Mary Lynn Maloney, and
numerous pieces by the noted artist Marita Dingus.
The opening reception for this show will be on February 3rd
during Art Walk.
SPECIAL
SHOW EVENT:
On January 19th, Northwind Arts Center will also present a
Fashion Show of clothing made from recyclable materials by “Haute Trash”.
The show will feature beautiful (and sometimes hilarious) clothes made of
recycled items you would never dream of wearing!
Admission is $2.00 for members and $5.00 for non-members of Northwind
Arts Alliance.
Coffee Talk
Information on the “Coffee Talk” for this show will be in the February
newsletter. It is tentatively
scheduled for Friday, February 16th at 7:00 P.M. at Northwind Arts
Center.

Something to Think About:
"I am not an exponent
of expressionism. I don't know exactly what that means, but I don't like
the sound of it. I dislike cults and isms. I
want to paint in terms of my own thinking and feeling."
Georgia O'Keefe (1887 - 1986)
