Artist Statement

I think of myself as an experimental artist because I love to try new combinations of materials and different approaches to a subject. I enjoy the evolutionary process that happens when I let the art materials lead me in a new and exciting direction. I often begin with a theme in my mind and I let that idea percolate in my subconscious for a while before beginning my artistic journey.

I work primarily in acrylic, mixed media, and pastels but mixed media is where I have the greatest freedom and opportunity to experiment. My mixed media pieces flow directly from my vivid and colorful imagination and seldom use any reference material. I often add a bit of whimsy to my pieces, using layers, texture, metal leaf, and iridescent and translucent colors.

My work has been accepted into many juried shows, has received awards and has been published in three of the Incite, Best of Mixed Media series (2013, 2015 and 2016), Published by North Light Books.

I have shown my work on an ongoing basis at Gallery 9, Port Townsend; Northwind Arts Center, Port Townsend; Port Ludlow Art League Gallery, Port Ludlow; and Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, Bainbridge Island.

  • Merit award, Northwind Arts Center Collage show
  • Two mixed-media pieces were selected by AAUW in a national art competition
  • Best of Mixed Media award

Art Instruction

Teach mixed-media classes to adults and children. Have performed demonstrations for members of the Port Ludlow Art League. Have done two live art creations for scholarship auctions, sponsored by the Port Ludlow Art League. My instructional series teaches students many techniques using a variety of acrylic products, along with a mix of other media. Each class will have a theme such as: stylized birds, floral, Wabi-sabi, abstract, etc. The goal is to complete a piece in each class.
