Artist Statement

I've always had a passionate, insatiable desire to artistically create, be it cooking, baking, tailoring, flower arranging, drawing, singing, and since 2009, jewelry designing. The more time and ways I find to blend these gifts together, the more it lights my fire and soothes my soul.

In my jewelry work, I love and am inspired by beautiful things from nature and enjoy working with their subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) textures and colors. But I also can’t resist the vivid colors, energy and sparkle of crystals, and I often incorporate them into my jewelry work as well. Bottom line, I GET to work with beautiful precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals, woods, crystals, pearls, and beads, and join them together in creative, fluid ways. Add a glass of fine wine to all that, and life just doesn't get any better!

I hope you enjoy my work, and feel the intent and joy I put into my pieces.

Biography

Paulette has always had a passionate, insatiable desire to artistically create, be it cooking, tailoring, flower arranging, drawing, singing, and since 2009, jewelry designing.

As a child, she grew up in Parkland, WA under the fortuitous influence of 4-H and mindful parents that were leaders. She learned to create her own clothes, grow flowers and vegetables, plan and cook meals, bake breads and other items, milk and show dairy cows, appreciate all animals, and work with people of all ages.
She attended Washington State University and graduated with a BA Degree in Home Economics – Clothing Design, and a Minor in Art. One of Paulette’s charcoal portraits was featured in the University’s Alumni newspaper, and later some of her smaller house sketches were used for real estate advertising in the Tacoma area.
As an adult she has continued to participate in creative contests such as the nationally-held Make It With Wool (MIWW) Contest, where contestants tailor a complete wool outfit, accessorize and model it, answer questions about the processes used in creating it, and have the outfit judged for couture tailoring techniques. In 2006 her tailored pant suit ensemble placed 1st in Washington State and 4th nationally. In 2014 her 2013 MIWW outfit was featured in the June/July issue of Vogue Pattern Magazine.
Since late 2010, Paulette has taught many budding jewelry artists in the greater Sequim area, through R&T Crystals and Beads. Classes have included wire-wrapping (beginning and advanced), basic jewelry-making, right angle weave stitching, peyote stitching, various stitched designs using two-hole beads, and chain mail design. Currently, Paulette’s favorite jewelry technique is wire wrapping beautiful stones and incorporating them into one-of-a-kind, fluid, elegant necklace and earring sets. She has been commissioned to wire wrap customer-provided stones on numerous occasions and enjoys that as well.

Paulette has also been a member of ARTfusion since 2011. This small group of talented artists produces a spectacular annual show at The Cutting Garden Art Center in Sequim, and offers a variety of exquisite art items for sale. The show has received innumerable accolades and has a growing customer base with each successive year.

In July 2012 Paulette entered and placed 2nd in an international jewelry design contest sponsored by Starman, Inc. (Czech beads) and was subsequently invited to be a member of Starman’s 2013 TRENDSETTERS team. From February 2013 through December 2014 she displayed and sold her jewelry at the LARC Gallery in Sequim; and from April 2014 through September 2016 her work was displayed and sold at the Heatherton Gallery in Port Angeles. Paulette regularly shows her work at the Soroptimist Gala Gift Show in December.

Paulette and husband Rick live in Sequim and own a catering business, this being their 6th season as Sequim Fresh Catering. It’s another wonderful way to express their artistic talents through delicious food prepared and presented in a beautiful manner. But when she’s not cooking, Paulette is designing and creating exquisite jewelry.
