My goal is to paint images so that there is a sense of mystery and possibly humor in the resulting painting. Personally, I love rich and subtle color, so I try to introduce that element too. My artistic interest has evolved from trying to render a highly accurate image to producing a painting with more of a sense of the elusive nature of physical things.
Marian has lived on the Olympic Peninsula since 2000, after residing in Seattle, Washington DC, and Oakland, CA. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology (marine biology emphasis) from UC Berkeley and attended a 1 year Scientific Communication Program (illustration emphasis) at UC Santa Cruz. Art instruction was received from those two universities, as well as from night programs at the Corcoran Gallery, the University of Maryland, Maryland College of Art and Design, and through various workshops. After working briefly as a free-lance scientific illustrator in the early 1980's, Marian changed course, and worked full-time in biotechnology and technology marketing.
Since moving to the Olympic Pennisula in 2000, Marian has participated in many local juried shows as well as several annual Plein Air Washington shows. She has also showed her work at local businesses such as the Sequim Bank of America, The Buzz, Elevated Ice Cream, and in Cooperative galleries such as the Blue Hole Gallery, Clallam Art Gallery and the Northwind Showcase.
