For the past two years I’ve been on a journey to find out more about color, especially in relationship to painting. I now know that this is a life-long quest, and that I’m just in the initial phases of the trip. All the elements that go into a painting challenge me. I never tire of studying, learning, practicing and discovering new ways to meet these challenges
I grew up in many parts of this country and Japan and Panama; did graduate study in philosophy, religion, and psychology; and have worked and lived in Greece, Germany, and Washington, D.C.
I’ve been doing art since, as a first grader, I won first prize at the Arizona State Fair for my drawing of a ballet dancer. As a working mother, I spent almost every Sunday drawing old houses in pen and ink. Soon I was in the deep waters (!) of watercolor, where I sank or swam for about 20 years. I also took night classes and workshops, one of which, with Caroline Buchanan, brought me to Port Townsend.
Here I began working in oil, first studying for four years with Diane Ainsworth, then continuing with different teachers at the Scottsdale Artist School. Since moving to Port Townsend I’ve participated in juried shows at Northwind; PAFAC; CVG; in Hood River, Oregon; and in Scottsdale and Fountain Hills, Arizona.
