I have been interested in art since I won a poster contest in the first grade. It has been my passion and my escape for many years. I am now at a point in my life that I am able to focus more on investigating that creative urge that swells within me. I call this urge that embodies my soul “my beast within”. Each time I am spurred to create, my beast is trying to be heard. I draw inspiration from the beauty that surrounds us, light, atmosphere, movement, imagination, and the senses that allow us to observe and be a part of this world. I do not dwell on one subject for very long for there is so much that interests me. I love observing other works of art for it allows me to briefly understand other artists “beast within” and their endeavor to let their creative forces emerge.
I am native to the Northwest having grown up and lived in Oregon. We relocated to Port Townsend 20 years ago. While studying art in school, at which time I obtained a graphic arts degree, I had the opportunity for instruction and study with Art Director Norm Bursheim, a master of Basic Design and Northwest Artist Leland John who introduced me to the world of oils and plein air painting. Other instruction has included old master artist Charles Blasklee, who had me falling in love with light and shadows. Various other studies over the years have included, pen and ink and watercolor. I am relatively new at displaying my work and find it especially rewarding when someone takes one home to enjoy.
