Most of my porcelain and stoneware are high-fired in a soda kiln. Images of the loading and firing of the soda kiln will be displayed. I will explain the process and answer questions.
From Port Townsend:
- Take SR 20/SR19 south.
- Continue on SR 19 for approximately 10 miles until you come to the four way stop w/ flashing light in Chimacum.
- Turn right at the light and you will be heading South on Center Rd.
- In 4.5 miles turn left onto Egg and I Road.
- After 1/2 mile, studio is on the left.
The responsiveness of clay has intrigued me since my first pottery class thirty years ago. Creating with the raw materials and the science of making glazes and firing kilns are equally engaging for me. Working with high-fire stoneware and porcelain, I use the potter’s wheel and handbuilding techniques to create utilitarian pots. Soda-firing adds an element of the unexpected with a direct marking from the flame.
Studio is open by appointment during the remainder of the year.
